ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM IN WORCESTER CITY

I have been living in a small city in Worcester, Massachusetts and everything seems to be fine with the environment but I have seen that there are a lot of cars driven by one person and it causes pollutions problems too due to the use of gas that contribute with the contamination of the air we breathe.

However this country has taken measures to avoid the pollution produced by car filled with fossil conbustibles and they have been producing electric car and hybrid car which contribute with the care of our environment.

 On the other hand, I have notice that here people recycle very little and do not separate organic wastes from recyclable materials and a think it affects the environment because if those materials were reused, it would avoid expend more money in new materials.

Instead of here there are different ways to recycle like the cans in the image, I consider that people must be aware with the culture of recycling in order to make our world better and free of contamination.

For that reason is important to follow the directions given by experts in when people is going to throw away their garbage.

Using properly cans to deposit each kind of garbage people contribute to enhance the environment and make their life green reusing every single material.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

As everything the solution to whichever problem is the education and training, in order to teach how to make use of the different materials like cardboard boxes, paper, aluminum and many other recyclable materials which people in many occasions do not know or do not care about to be recycled.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM IN THE VILLAGE OF SAN ALFONSO

I think environmental problem in my region is the garbage dump that handled in the village of San Alfonso.

 It seems to me it is not a suitable place for such activity because it no realize management is performed by function, it is near to village, affects water sources, is harmful to the health of people who live there, disturbing the habitat of some animals in the region, attracting animals that harm the welfare of the people such as rodents and insects and also becomes a risk to children and people because it is an abyss and has no security system.

In my opinion in addiction the above is an environmental problem that affects not only the people, it also affects some sidewalk are located in the part down, and a water source is contaminated directly and this at the time on its route joins another source, which makes its cause contamination therefore it is no longer fit for human consumption, affecting several people in the summer suffer water shortages and It seems to me this creek would be the solution for the people in the summer if it would be fit for human consumption.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

I think as agricultural area which is the village, should benefit organic waste as fertilizer for crops that grow in the region, whereby an organic waste processing plant would be required.

Begin to educate and sensitize people to the recycling drive from the houses, also manage a project so that such solid waste is transported and sold to factories.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM IN BOGOTA CITY

 I think the most significant environmental problem in Bogota city is air pollution, It seems clear that the high altitude of Bogota contributes to the terrible air pollution problems in the city, It could be argued that almost a quarter of the entire population live in urban centers, like Bogota and most of the people have a vehicle or use one to travel around the city, these automobiles are considered responsible for the 70 percent of the city's air pollution problems.

It is unfortunate that people in this days still have to deal with the big, black plumes of smoke funneling out of the traditional, independent and disorganized buses, the traffic is so congested that it can take over an hour to travel ten kilometers, so it was crucial to implement the system of “Pico y Placa” (“peak and plate”); which determines whether an individual car can be on the road between the peak hours of 6:00 to 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 to 7:30 p.m., based on the vehicle’s license plate. Unfortunately, it would seem that not enough is being done; the dangerous concentrations of particulate matter, a major cause of concern in Bogota are able to penetrate the respiratory system, leading to various debilitating illnesses like asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory infections.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

It should be noted that Bogota’s Secretary of the Environment is working in a project where researchers will create an inventory on atmospheric emissions coming from mobile sources, such as private vehicles, fixed sources like industrial plants and gas stations, and emissions released naturally by vegetation, finally, and perhaps most importantly, the results will undoubtedly contribute to a much-needed improvement in the capital’s air quality, not to mention the well-being of its citizens. This is good news for anyone who is forced to breathe Bogota’s air.

ENVIROMENTAL PROBLEMS IN RIOHACHA - LA GUAJIRA

We have several enviromental problems in Riohacha that is my hometown, I'm going to mention three of them:

1. 

Riohacha’s dump: Riohacha generates about 100 tons per day of garbage which are dumped into a landfill located five kilometers from town on the road to Valledupar and that does not meet a minimum standards of environmental management. The dump is causing serious pollution of soil and air resources.In the same place recycling activities are performed by the indigenous communities with a high participation of children without any protection or prevention in the sound management of solid waste deposited there.

The trash going there do not have any type of treatment or control, the dump doesn’t have a limited area, which causes the relaxation of them in a disorderly manner, even by road from Riohacha to Valledupar. Recyclers and living around the site, make indiscriminate burning of waste, increasing sources of pollution and environmental damage in the área.

2. Sewage system: A river of product dumping wastewater sewers empty into the sea at the height of the sector known in Riohacha as the New Lighthouse, as a result of bad sanitary sewer system that exists in this capital.

3. Laguna Salada: This is where the independence of Riohacha took place, thanks to Jose Prudencio Padilla, but is now damaged and people throw garbage and sewage there.

Another big problem we have in my region is Cerrejon, The mine has caused a huge environmental pollution and serious health problems. A multitude of animal and plant species are threatened with extinction; including some important medicinal plants and other plants used in traditional rituals. A very serious problem of mine is the huge amount of dust that rises above all due to the explosions that occur daily, which kills plants and causes respiratory disease in humans as silicosis and rashes.
